I have the Mac 161, it stopped working a month ago, shorted the house out, caused all sorts of problems. Long story short, being as how it was in the warranty period (14 months into a 24 month) I rang hotpoint who asked me to return it to the place I bought it (Good Guys Kotara) and it was replaced with a brand new unit (complete with new 24 month warranty), no questions asked (except about what had happened). The self-evaporative condenser is just wonderful. I have only had to empty the water tank on one occasion when I first bought my first one, when the weather had been particularly humid for a long period. What isn't wonderful is the noise.
You get used to it though, and turn the TV up to twice its normal:) Until I bought the Mac161, I had had two skinny Window Units (also Hotpoint) which lasted me from 2001 until last years dust storm. One of the units seized up completely and the other just didn't work as well. They gave good service for a long time and were beyond redemption so out they went for council cleanup.

I don't know where they are all made, don't much care, I've had good experiences with the brand over the years. (Hotpoint used to make kettles and hot water jugs too, and other kitchen appliances. I think the 120 will be enough for my place, I thought it was a RC system, but that's ok if it isn't I can deal with being cold.
